Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the intensity of apoptosis and necrosis of neutrophils in infants with communityacquired pneumonia, to identify additional criteria of severity of the disease. There were examined 73 infants with community-acquired pneumonia. In infants with medium-severe pneumonia both apoptosis and moderately expressed necrosis are activated. With increasing severity of disease intensification of necrotic processes with a tendency toward inhibition of apoptosis is observed, which may serve as an additional criterion for severity community-acquired pneumonia in infants.
