Abstract

The reasons for lack of doctors in western areas which became part of Belarus in 1939 were investigated. To solve the problem the third medical institute was opened in Grodno in 1958. The founder and first director L.F. Supron started its formation as educational, scientific and cultural center of the Western Region. It allowed to increase considerably the number of doctors in Grodno and Brest regions as well as in the whole Republic.
