Abstract

Population-based studies have shown close association between psoriasis (Pc) and atherosclerosis formation. Ultrasonic measurement of inima-media complex sickness (IMT) is a highly reliable way to reveal subclinical atherosclerosis. The purpose of the study is to find out proatherogenous changes in IMT of arteries in patients with psoriasis arthritis (PсА) and Pс. 58 patients with PcA, 45 patients with Pс, and 22 controls were elected for the investigation. In patients with PсА the development of subclinical atherosclerotic changes in arterial walls (IMT 1.032-1.072 mm) appeared to be more marked as compared to patients with Pс (IMT 0.936-0.958 mm). In comparison with healthy subjects, patients with Pс and PсА show credibly higher IMT values of arterial walls. In patients with PсА and Pс the duration of the disease and PASI index, as well as in patients with PсА the joint index and indices of disease activity correlate with IMT.
